Clay Barn is a small orchard on the North East Essex coast run by the Trollope family. With over 50 years experience in fruit farming, they now focus on what they enjoy - giving new life to forgotten fruits and providing a reminder of the diversity and flavours of the English countryside that have largely disappeared.
The orchard specialises in growing quality quinces, which are sold to jam, jelly and liqueur makers, by mail order and to the general public at the house.
For further information or prices please get in touch.
The quince growing season is from October through to November.
Availability varies greatly so please ring ahead to check.
Clay Barn is pleased to have been chosen as one of Rick Stein's Local Food Heroes. We have been the subject of the BBC Radio 4's Food Programme, The Times' Food Detective Series and many articles in the national press. We are also listed in the River Cottage Preserves handbook, as well as Henrietta Green's Food Lovers Guide to Britain.
